SAFETY

COMPANY-WIDE SAFETY

At M&O, safety is a top priority for every employee, whether in the field or in the office. Our Safety Coordinator and Head of Field Safety are responsible for making sure everyone understands and follows safety requirements. The Head of Field Safety is also responsible for performing field audits of projects.

We have an official Safety manual that includes important programs like how to handle chemicals (HazCom) and when to wear respiratory protection. This manual is given to all Foremen and updated when new regulations are mandated.

New Employees receive both general and site-specific safety training before starting work. On the job, weekly safety (Toolbox) meetings are held, and Foremen are given specific matters to talk about, but are encouraged to discuss the job situation to help maintain a safe work site.

M&O’s Experience Modification Factors (EMR) from 2025

We encourage the employees to give their opinion if they feel there is a safer way of doing a project and if it is feasible to do, which it usually is, they are free to do it.

REPORTING INCIDENTS

If an accident or incident occurs, it must be reported to the office immediately using three forms:

  1. A basic report of what happened.
  2. An investigation, as well as ways to prevent it from occurring.
  3. A written exploration from the employee involved

These reports are maintained by our insurance administration at the main office. M&O places the incident/accident into a database. This allows us to notice any trends and implement procedures to prevent such trends from happening. Any concerns are communicated to our employees on a weekly, monthly/quarterly basis.

OPEN COMMUNICATION

We encourage all employees to stress their concerns of unsafe conditions to Foremen, Field Safety, or the Superintendent.

EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY

Safety is everyone’s responsibility at M&O. Our Safety Coordinator and Head Field Safety are in constant communication with company leadership to solve problems and share concerns. They also attend training to stay up to date. All of our union workers are trained in OSHA 10- and 30- hour safety courses. We maintain about 75 Foremen who are experienced in key areas like:

  • Fall Protection
  • Confined Spaces
  • Scaffolding
  • HazCom
  • Respiratory Protection

As our record shows, M&O Companies is committed to safety. We continually encourage all of our workers to act and think safety. We stress this not for the company’s sake, but for the sake of the individual worker.
